Our ambition
We want the St Pancras Hospital site to be an environment for everyone – a place that is open and accessible for all. Places have the power to maintain good mental health and help us to heal and we want to achieve this across everything we deliver as part of this masterplan.
Working together with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, we aim to redevelop the St Pancras Hospital site to allow the Trust to provide exceptional clinical care in modern, accessible and sustainable mental health facilities, both on site and in Camden and Islington.
Alongside health care, we want to redevelop the St Pancras Hospital site to create new homes, offices and public spaces.
Wellbeing will be at the heart of all our designs. We want to create a new environment that positively contributes to people’s mental and physical health, creating a place that is warm and welcoming for everyone who lives, works or visits the area.
Our emerging masterplan will seek to:

Deliver new modern healthcare facilities

Deliver new homes, including affordable homes

Create high quality public spaces

Create a variety of employment and training opportunities alongside new purpose-built offices

Retain, restore, repurpose, and transform Victorian buildings

Open up the currently inaccessible site with improved and enhanced walking and cycling routes making the site accessible to surrounding communities

Indicative masterplan for the St Pancras Hospital site (NB Oriel and the existing St Pancras Gardens are not within the proposed development area)

C&I’s wider St Pancras Transformation Programme
The current St Pancras Hospital will not meet the future mental health needs for the people of Camden and Islington.
C&I’s wider Transformation Programme will create a new inpatient facility to replace St Pancras Hospital and provide four integrated community mental health centres for its community services at Greenland Road, Lowther Road, St Pancras and a fourth site in North West Camden. The commercial redevelopment of the St Pancras Hospital site will make the overall programme possible.
Our emerging vision for the St Pancras Hospital site is an integral part of C&I’s St Pancras Transformation Programme which is aimed at creating facilities that enable the best possible clinical care in sustainable, accessible and therapeutic environments that support recovery and wellbeing.
The vision for the Transformation Programme is to provide the calibre of mental health care that patients deserve and expect, and is fit for the 21st century with new integrated community facilities. By improving these buildings it will increase the clinical capacity and enable us to treat more patients.
